Sooyun Kim Virtual Workshop

Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and Powell Flutes Artist, Sooyun Kim, presents an online workshop for flutists of all ages about how to create a compelling performance.

Many musicians have been using this time of solitude to revisit etude and scale books to strengthen techniques and foundations. What is this practice for? Why do we perform? What makes a compelling performance?

In this hour, we will survey the similarities and differences between how actors and musicians prepare for performances. We will also discuss how we can apply some of their methods and approaches in our own performance practice. As a case study, we will talk about different adaptations and interpretations of Shakespeare's Soliloquies.  Then, we will explore various ways in which we can apply some of the discoveries in our own flute repertoire.
