More about this Flute Teacher...
I draw upon numerous musical and non-musical encounters, and life experiences to convey musical concepts as well as express with musicality and artistry. From learning how to hold the instrument and read music to preparing for an audition or performance, I enjoy working with all levels. Along with giving private lessons, I am the Director of Beginning and Intermediate Bands at ʻIolani School, starting students on their life-long journey playing a wind or percussion instrument. I have performed with the Royal Hawaiian Band, Honolulu Symphony Orchestra (now Hawaii Symphony Orchestra), Maui Symphony Orchestra (principal flute), University of Hawaii Symphony Orchestra (as a community member) and the Hawaii Concert Band. My flute mentors were Edward Kanaya (Middle School band director and HSO flutist), Jean Harling (flute lecturer, U of Hawaii and HSO principal), Richard Hahn (professor of flute, U of Idaho), James Pellerite (professor of flute, Indiana U), Kenton Terry (Philadelphia Orchestra), and Ken Andrews (Toronto Symphony). Former students have entered a variety of professions including music education, and one earned her Masters of Music and currently performs on her flute with the United States Army Band.
